HO Scale Desert Layout Project  -  24-6
It is time for an update on my HO layout (after 8 years)

(just click on the 4-digit number for bigger size photos)
As usual, I am taking a huge amount of photos from a scene to show a lot of different views.

The Mormon Rocks were created out of Styrofoam as per this photo which I took some years ago.

The real thing - famous Mormon Rocks near Highway 138

HO Scale version of the Mormon Rocks on my layout (length 80 cm = 31,5", height 23 cm = 9")

Mormon Rocks in Cajon Pass w/Hwy 138 (Office 2)   24-6

Because of space limitations on a layout we cannot show the different elements placed like in real life.   WL-3500
Yes, Highway 138 is passing the Mormon Rocks and the RR tracks, but is having 2 overpasses over BNSF MT-3 and BNSF MT-1 and 2 and 1 underpass under the UP track and the Mormon Rocks are just next to it. We also made a dirt road going to Hill 582 which would be much further away in real. Well these are the compromises in creating a model railroad with some famous icons included.
The hight difference between lower and upper level are 16 cm and will change with an 1,5 % grade from here to the right.   WL-3501

Legendary Hill 582 in Cajon Pass (Office 2)  24-5

On my layout, my miniature version of Hill 582 was turned by 90 ° because of space limitations.  WL-3663
But with some imagination, we feel like being in the Mojave Desert (Cajon Pass) and dreaming of the real thing.  WL-3540

from the Mormon Rocks to the Flyover (upper and lower level)  (Office 2)  24-7

We are standing in the passage and looking into Office 2 to get an overview from the crossover to the Mormon Rocks. WL-3568

Upper level tracks are going downhill through the shelf toward the exit (bridge) to Office 1.  WL-3652
The Santa Fe train is going uphill toward the overpass and the UP train is going downhill toward the bridge leading into Office 1.  WL-3627

Overview of the layout (each square is 0,5 m)

I started with my layout in late December 2007 and it was finally finshed in late September 2015.
In the meantime, I made some detailing with city signs, billboards, figures, vehicles etc.
