HO Scale Desert Layout Project  -  24-5
It is time for an update on my HO layout (after 8 years)

(just click on the 4-digit number for bigger size photos)
As usual, I am taking a huge amount of photos from a scene to show a lot of different views.

Legendary Hill 582 in Cajon Pass (Office 2)  24-5

Windmill blades on flat cars pass below Hill 582.   WL-3663
As there is always some wind coming from the coast, the trees are slithly bent.   WL-3555
You might think a Swiss flag on the Hill is not possible? But if the Hilltender knows who is coming, he will put it up.   WL-3529
WL-3535
Uphill Mainline (just below Hill 582) with a set of GP60M power.   WL-3539
This UP Trains is having 2 mid train helpers.   WL-3538
The railfans on WSI are busy in taking photos.   WL-3536
WL-3540
You may think, why do we have some trees on Hill 582? These have been planted by the Hilltender and they require water 2 times per week,
otherwise they may dry out and die.   WL-3543
WL-3542
WL-3544
WL-3554
WL-3556
Last photo of Hill 582.    WL-3588
We continue with famous Mormon Rocks on page 24-6.

A view words about the history and the building of Hill 582 in HO scale.

This is my final project for my layout. Hill 582, the ultimative railfan's observation point in Cajon Pass.
East side of Hill 582 (w/o railings) taken by Kim Nipkow July 24, 2015  (more photos of the real Hill - click here)
Let me explain some details about Hill 582 and the people behind it. Don Toles is the "Hilltender" who is taking care of this oasis and bringing water 2-3 times per week. Don Toles was the co-creator of Hill 582 back in 1992. Michael B. Jeromin was the other co-creator of the Hill. Later, Gary Gray joined Don on the Hill. Gary is sending always the latest photos which are posted on our Cajon Pass Photography site. Marc Fournier (his father was a Swiss) is also helping Don a lot. But there is also Jerry Shinar (WSI), who is doing a great job in maintaining Hill 582 as well.
This is my version of Hill 582 in HO scale. Not exactly the same as the real thing, but similar (9/29/15)

Overview of the layout (each square is 0,5 m)

I started with my layout in late December 2007 and it was finally finshed in late September 2015.
In the meantime, I made some detailing with city signs, billboards, figures, vehicles etc.
