January 14: Haven't been out much but I
did manage to take a few from near my Hi-Desert community. # 3001-3002: In a badly BACKLIT image, BNSF 4024 West heads an Officer / Inspection Special over the Flyover @ MP39.1. January 12, 2013: On this Saturday, Marc
lead me on a tour of the Colton area - including the new UP / BNSF diamond /
flyover, the Colton UP yard and the UP engine facility. The flyover
pre-construction specifications stated that the flyover grade would not
exceed 1.2% and that the flyover rail height would be approximately 40 feet
above the BNSF rail. FROM LA CADENA DR (East of the diamonds): # 2747: The grade. # 2748: Demonstrates the height difference between the flyover (upper bridge) and the present grade. March 2: A couple of weeks ago Dave (Wales), Marc & I drove up to
Daggett. For any that don't know, Daggett is about 10 miles East of Barstow
on the BNSF Needles Sub and is where the UP leaves the BNSF and heads North
to Yermo, CA. Here are a few of what we saw in about three hours: # 3028: BNSF 7481 East stopped to allow BNSF 6839 (Z train) to run around. # 3029: BNSF 7481 heads East. # 3030: BNSF 5978 heads West -- into Barstow at track speed. # 3031: Light power UP SD-60's are East Bound and will shortly turn NB to Yermo. UP 2284 is commonly known as a "triclops" due to the windscreen configuration. # 3032: UP 7658 is EB to Yermo. # 3033-3034: UP coal loads (UP 8159 & DPU's West) stop at W Daggett to allow --- # 3035: UP 7488 to run around WB. # 3036-3039: Four BNSF's are WB to Barstow --- again AT TRACK SPEED. Hope you enjoy GGG |
