New August 26, 2026: Who's ready for the America's 250 Locomotive Celebration this weekend in Spencer, NC?

I gave the new DJI Mini Pro 5 a workout at Media Day for the 250th anniversary locomotive celebration at the North Carolina Transportation Museum. Here are a few scenes. Fun fact: I will be helping coordinate drone sessions at the museum on Friday and Saturday afternoons where you can legally launch your drone from near the roundhouse, and the roundhouse apron will be people-free. You get five minutes for $50, which is more than enough time to get the "money" shot and several alternative angles. A few tickets are still available; info on the NCTM website.

New August 29, 2026: Amazing second day at the America 250 Locomotive Event.

I (Dustin Weese) have now photographed every locomotive on site. There is one more locomotive that should arrive tonight. It got lost on the way to this event. Tomorrow is day 3, the final day. I'm hoping this locomotive is there tomorrow morning so I can get photos of it. Since I am satisfied with what I have gotten, I plan to head for home around noon tomorrow so I get home at a decent time. It's been an amazing event by Dustin Weese 8/29/26.

8/30/26: There she is, the one that didn't make it to Spencer, North Carolina.
Oh my way home, I decided to gander here in Roanoke. What did I spot, ESPN 1776 through some tanker cars on a mixed freight and the train was moving. I hauled ass back into downtown Roanoke and here she came. Heading back home trailing 3 of 3 on a mix freight. Dustin Weese 8/30/26

New August 30, 2026: The America 250 as seen by Rusted Rail Productions

More photos of America 250th anniversary ALCO, EMD, & GE locomotives at North Carolina Transportation Museum’s grass patch during the parade as the golden hour began. The sun was hot and the humidity was brutal, but the weather made for good photos if one could handle it.
I have updated lots of areas on my website and have turned most of the pages on. I have made multiple new pages including printing photos, historical prints, my library, and a store.
I had hoped to have it done before big boy came through, but it was too much work.

New August 30, 2026: The America 250 event at the N.C. Transpo Museum is over.

Thirty-plus hours of driving over the course of three days, and it was 100% worth it. Thanks to the museum staff and railroaders for providing this event, and to the railfans who shared information during the days before it all happened. This is a fraction of the action, but it'll give you a good idea what it was like - by Jordan Auberg.

New August 30, 2026: The America 250 event at the N.C. Transpo Museum is over.

The America 250 event at the N.C. Transportation Museum has come to a close, and I've only begun to scratch the surface of the hundreds of photos I took. Special thanks to Cadey Thomason, Eric Hendrickson, and the cast of many who made this a success. And very special thanks to the 72 drone flyers who signed up for my cockamamy idea of an organized drone session and got through it without incident... More photos to come as I dig deeper into the results. Here are a few scenes from Saturday and Sunday in no particular order.. by Steve Barry

New August 30, 2026: That’s a wrap on an unforgettable America 250 Locomotive Celebration!

What a weekend! Thousands of guests, railfans, families, photographers and history enthusiasts joined us at the N.C. Transportation Museum to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with an incredible collection of locomotives. The crowd’s excitement and passion for railroading made this a weekend to remember!
A tremendous THANK YOU to the railroads who sent their locomotives to Spencer and helped make this celebration possible. Bringing these incredible engines together was no small undertaking, and we are grateful for your partnership and support.
We also want to recognize our amazing staff and dedicated volunteers who worked countless hours before, during and after the event to make everything run smoothly. From welcoming guests to moving locomotives, answering questions and working behind the scenes, this weekend would not have happened without you. ❤️🤍💙

And a special thank you to our presenting sponsors Trains Magazine, White River Productions, Scale Trains, and Virtual Railfan and to our additional sponsors: Rowan County Tourism, Berkshire Station, MTH Electric Trains, and Walthers.

To everyone who came out this weekend, thank you! Your enthusiasm and support made the America 250 Locomotive Celebration truly special.
From the first arrival to the final departure, this was a celebration we’ll never forget.
Thank you for celebrating America and railroading with us!

Over 10,000 attendees joined us for the America 250 Locomotive Celebration over three days and two nights, and it was incredible to see so many people come together to celebrate America’s railroad history.
