I went on Stein's Hill to see BNSF MT-3 between I-15 underpass and HWY-138 underpass. But I had no luck as there was no train coming on MT-3, but on MT-2 which is some distance away. From Stein's Hill, we cannot see the Mormon Rocks and therefore, we only see the train before and after the Rocks.

Just after breakfast at the Best Western, I heard some roaring diesel sound in my Motel room and I stepped outside on the passage at the corner and a BNSF WB Auto Carrier Train was coming down on MT-3 across HWY-138 and my Motel. Afterwards, I left Cajon Pass for a couple of days as I went to Las Vegas to attend the SEMA Car Show (for every American Car Freak by far the most exciting event).

After the SEMA Car Show, I left Las Vegas on
November 7 back to Cajon Pass. Of course, I had to pass Barstow. When I was
on the Freeway there was a UP-Train rolling over the I-15 Bridge at the
Barstow Main Street Exit and I decided to exit instead of continuing toward
Cajon. I was able to catch the UP-Train after the Barstow Yard while driving Main Street (old Route 66). I took some photos and continued my journey to Victorville, Hesperia and Cajon Pass. While driving along Summit Valley Road, I was passing the same UP WB Train. A little bit further up, I was able to take some photos of this train. I continued my journey and went to the Mormon Rocks and Stein's Hill with good light in the late afternoon. I found the same UP WB Train coming down on MT-3 and passing Stein's Hill. It was the first time, a train was following me! |

Well, these are the last photos I took from Cajon Pass on November 8, 2015. It was time to depart to LAX and return my rental Van. In the evening, my non-stop flight with Swiss to ZRH will take 11 hours with arrival the next day. To be honest, it was my best US-visit since 1972. There were two highlights: A) Railfanning Cajon Pass with 5000 + photos (crazy) and also meeting my best friends: Don E. Toles (Hilltender), Gary G. Gray and Marc Fournier being active in sending accurate photos of Cajon for my Cajon Pass Website. B) Following the American Car Scene in visitting West Coast Customs and Foose Design and attend the SEMA Car Show in Las Vegas. |
