Inally, I edited down my Northern California trip photos from the 588 I
took. Part 1 is March 16 when we went east of Reno (Sparks) as far as Hazen,
Nevada, MP 288, where the Hawthorne branch cuts off to get to the Army
Ammunition Depot at Hawthorne. It was a slow day and we finally got some
action at Thisbe, NV, MP 269.4. Note the lenticular clouds which indicate
the wind was really whistling across the Sierras. Bruce "DOC" Jones That covers the first day where we saw lots more nice clouds than trains but, heck, any day chasing trains is a good one. |

| Part 2: Day two, March 17 (happy St. Paddy's!), was an exploration of the Donner Line from Truckee down to Colfax. We got quite lucky on trains and the scenery was great so there were more photos to take. This is the first part of Day two. | |

| Part 3: Starts on Day Three, March 18 with photo 18. Day Three was a trip down the Feather River Canyon along UP's Canyon Sub. former WP. There was a lot of damage on both road and railroad. The railroad was repaired and open but the road repairs were continuing which caused some pretty significant traffic delays. This time of year the FRC is almost 100% in shadow and the cloudy weather didn't help much but a train photo is a train photo, right? | |

This part's photos begin with two (24 - 25) of the stored UP units at Portola taken on March 18. We then go to the last day of the trip, March 19 starting with photo 26. It was a great time with my friend Pete and a first-class train fix. |
